Not every item applies to every client, but these are the most common categories to prepare before your appointment.
Every client
- Valid photo ID
- Social Security card or taxpayer identification information
- Proof of current address
- Bank account information for direct deposit
Income documents
- W-2 forms from all employers
- 1099 forms including NEC, MISC, INT, DIV, or K
- Retirement, unemployment, or other income statements
- Last year’s return if available
Families & dependents
- Dependents’ Social Security cards
- Childcare expense records if applicable
- Form 1098-T or other education-related documents
- Any paperwork tied to credits you expect to claim
Self-employed & business filers
- Business income summary and expense records
- Mileage, supplies, software, or contractor payment details
- Entity records for LLC, partnership, or S-Corp filings
- Any bookkeeping reports you already maintain
Three simple ways to make filing easier
A little preparation ahead of time helps avoid delays and keeps the appointment focused on the filing itself.
Sort by category
Group identification, income forms, dependent records, and business documents separately before you come in.
Flag missing items
If something is unavailable, write it down so we can tell you whether it is required before filing continues.
Bring questions
If you are unsure about a deduction, prior-year issue, or business expense, ask while everything is in front of you.
What happens after you gather your documents
Confirm the appointment
Call ahead if you need to check hours, ask about missing paperwork, or let us know you need remote filing instead of an office visit.
Bring or send your documents
Come to the Metairie office or use the remote/mobile filing option if that is easier for your schedule.
Review and file
We go through what you provided, talk through any gaps or opportunities, and move the return forward from there.
Need help figuring out which documents apply to you?
If your situation includes dependents, self-employment, prior-year returns, or business filing questions, contact the office before your appointment and we will point you in the right direction.
